An increasing number of sports enthusiasts are getting into hobby horse, an activity that involves show jumping while riding a broomstick with a horse-shaped head. Already popular with over 10,000 practitioners in Finland, hobby horse has built a particularly tight-knit community.
Thanks to Equitatus 1991, many children have had the chance to try this fun yet creative discipline, as Francesco, the founder of Hobby Horse Italia, explains:
“Hobby horse is much more than just a game; it’s a sport that gives children the opportunity to experience the excitement of horseback riding, recreating jumps and courses like top athletes, but with their own imaginative spirit. Each jump is tackled with a mix of determination, competition, and fun that makes their eyes sparkle. The success of this initiative has exceeded all expectations: despite some initial criticism, the numerous registrations and the long line of children eager to participate confirmed the great value of this project. The game turns into a real friendly challenge, where the desire to participate and improve is rewarded with small recognitions, designed to celebrate their passion for horses. Seeing the enthusiasm and genuine joy in their smiles is the most beautiful proof of how this sport, despite its simplicity, deeply touches those who engage with it.”
