We are inside Pavilion 8, the historic one at Fieracavalli that, in addition to opening its doors to the only Italian stage of the Show Jumping World Cup, hosts the Gala D’Oro, the equestrian show directed by Antonio Giarola that has been lighting up Verona nights for more than 30 years.
Thursday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 9, when the lights go out in the commercial pavilions, PATHOS, the show that celebrates the horse through the tale of emotions brought to the stage by 10 evocative performances, comes to life.
Many national and international artists are present.
First and foremost, Jean François Pignon-the world-acclaimed French trainer-ready to enchant his audience with the free-roaming work performed with his 13 horses, and who will also demonstrate how it is possible to forge a solid and authentic relationship with the equine, employing only voice and body language .
Hope, rebirth and resilience will be the emotions brought to life by Kintsugi, the performance named after the Japanese art of the same name used to repair broken ceramic objects with gold dust. It will be Gessica Notaro and Rudj Bellini-two veterans of Fieracavalli-who will bring to the stage an unprecedented pair equestrian choreography, accompanied by the belted reins work of eight other riders.
Crossing the arena in Hall 8, coming directly from Belgium, is one of the rising stars of equestrian performance: Mirela Paulus, an amazzone set to enchant the audience with a solo violin performance on horseback, accompanied by the stunning choreography of the Gala dance company.
Directly from Alta Scuola in Libertà, Carmelo Saenz Mendoza will take the stage with his gentle doma performance, demonstrating to the Verona audience the beauty of the authentic bond between horse and rider. Also prepared to astonish is Compagnie Jehol with their “Voltige and Equestrian Dance,” featuring vaults, jumps, and pirouettes in perfect synchrony with their faithful Comtois horses.
Just a moment will be enough to feel the magic with Lavanda, a piece performed by the Maremma Riders from Asd Le Doganelle in Tuscania. This work captures the joy and exhilaration of the lavender harvest, a grand community celebration deeply rooted in ancient Tuscan traditions.
To conclude, the most beloved moment for both young and old will not be missing: the carousel in its “academic” version – with inspiration from Verdi – performed by Accademia il Nero Luminoso. There will also be “Respiro,” performed by the young students from Rudj Bellini’s School of Equestrian Theater, and finally, the military carousel by the Lanceri di Montebello.
