Giulia Martinengo Marquet is the reigning Italian champion (although she already won the title in 2015 and 2018) and the only woman called up for Team Italy to compete at Jumping Verona. Born in Friuli, she has been living in Veneto for many years. She belongs to the equestrian sport representative of the Italian Air Force.
Giulia has 15 starts in the CSI5*-W World Cup, the flagship event in Fieracavalli’s intense sporting programme. “Verona is one of the two main shows in Italy and we are always delighted and enthusiastic to compete at Fieracavalli. For me, it is also my “at home” event. For a long time, I followed the action from the grandstands with my family… The first time I can remember I was just nine or ten years old. And then I managed to be here as a competitor myself.”
Do you have any significant memories associated with Verona? “Unquestionably the ninth place I scored with Athletica in 2007: my best result in the Grand Prix. And then the victory on Pop Lady d’Elle in 2014, the only one I’ve achieved so far in Verona.”
This is your fifteenth participation… “A significant number for such an important event. Being selected and competing in Verona, as the season comes to the end, is the crowning moment of a positive year of outstanding results. It is an acknowledgement we did a good job. Me and the team that assists my daily work at home and during competitions. We managed the horses in a proper way, enhancing their performances. Having said so, one should never feel overly satisfied. It is important to keep giving your best. It will be like this again this year.”
Speaking of horses and results, 2024 was a particularly significant year. “I can at last rely on a top-level trio: Captain Morgan Weering Z, Delta del’Isle and Scuderia 1918 Calle Deluxe, in which I can now have complete confidence, regardless of the decisions of the moment. It is a situation that gives me pleasure and security. Now the ball is in my court and I really hope to be up to their level on this occasion.”
