“The best way to jump a fence? Don’t be afraid. The important thing is ‘position’, to convey a sense of assurance to the horse.” Michel Robert, a worldwide legend of show jumping and an internationally renowned trainer, talks about himself with Fieracavallli and reveals the secrets underlying his natural equitation method.
On Saturday 9 November 2019, the French champion took the chair during the “Wow Michel Robert Experience” – an entire day of theoretical and practical training attended by more than one hundred registered riders. The initial classroom lesson was followed by a session in the ring with champion Giulia Martinengo Marquet and students attending Robert’s school for demonstrations of exercises ranging from those on the ground and the flat ribbon harness, through to the position to take in saddle and for the jump. The main theme is the unique and special philosophy for the development of horses and riders as a team: no magic or whispers, because Robert applies a gentle technique based on mutual understanding and trust between riders and horses.
In Verona together with the founder of Team Wow, Vittorio Garrone, Robert is also the reference person for the sporting section of the Fieracavalli Academy: this is a new project that aims to promote an increasingly respectful approach to animal welfare in the equestrian world. “Being involved as a testimonial in Fieracavalli initiatives focusing on ethical aspects is unquestionably a great honour, not to mention the possibility of competing in World Cup competitions,” said Robert – now 70 years old – on the eve of his participation in the finals of the Italian leg of the Longines FEI Show Jumping World Cup ™, scheduled on Sunday.
