Criollo Horses

Strong and versatile horses with a South American soul

Criollo horses will once again be in the forefront during Fieracavalli 2019. This breed traces its origins to XVI century Spanish horses taken to the New World – Argentina and later Peru – by Spanish and Portuguese Conquistadores. Four centuries of natural selection and cross-breeding have given rise to a very resilient horse capable of withstanding the most difficult climatic conditions.

Today, Criollo horses are characterised by broad-ranging genetic variety and superb qualities including hardiness, resistance, resilience and adaptability. These versatile and intelligent horses have an impressive aptitude for field work yet are also ideal for hiking, endurance races and western riding competitions such as Pole and Barrel, Team Penning and Gymkhanas.

Fieracavalli will host champions, breeders and figures linked with this breed from all over the world: in particular, France, Germany, Switzerland, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina will take part thanks to collaboration with ANACC, (National Association of Criollo Horse Breeders).
