Fast clear rounds from Belgium’s Nicola Philippaerts and French rider Julien Anquetin gave Team Jumping Verona the honours in the Scuderia 1918 team competition at Jumping Verona 2022 this evening. Thanks to this competition, 1605 trees will be planted in partnership with Save The Planet.
Beyond doubt
The final scoreline of 207.92 to 223.39 left the result beyond doubt. Emanuele Gaudiano’s last-to-go run in a time of 56.59 was the winning side’s discard score because victory was already in the bag although nothing was assured from the outset.
Giulia Martinengo and Calle Deluxe got the sponsor’s side off to the best start when clearing the 10-fence course in 53.01 seconds, more than three seconds quicker than Jumping Verona’s Anna-Julia Kontio and Lopez vd Oude Heihof. But Nicola Philippaerts pulled it back for the eventual winner when scorching through the finish win 49.81 with Khan vd Kattevennen Z, almost six seconds quicker than Scuderia’s Kevin Staut and Beau de Laubry Z.
Then Julien Anquetin piled on even more pressure when scooting home in the quickest time of all, 49.04, leaving Scuderia’s Piergiorgio Bucci and Dyptic d’Helios well in arrears after they posted a time of 54.29.
Scuppered
Any chance Scuderia had of rescuing the situation during the next rotation of riders was scuppered when Simon Delestre’s Enjoy d’Eole ducked out at the last, leaving Verona team-member Marlon Zanotelli clearly in the driving seat when crossing the line in 52.50 with Zy-Zento. Lorenzo De Luca and Promise Z crossed the line for Scuderia in 61.76 but the win was already in the bag for Jumping Verona with their total of 207.92 clearly unbeatable so Gaudiano was under no pressure with Stalensky PS when last to go.
